Have you decided to get breast implants? Congratulations! The amount of self-confidence you will gain post-procedure when you finally have the body of your dreams will be astounding! Here are some basic tips to help the process go as smoothly and comfortably as possible:

1. Understanding is the Key

Make sure you are informed on how long recovery will take, including how much time you will need to take off from work. Generally speaking, women can return to work a few days after surgery, but other activities, such as exercise or swimming (where the breasts are fully submerged in water), require around 2 to 4 weeks of recovery time.

It is also important to have reasonable expectations about your results.  Your surgeon can speak with you regarding how your body will change and appear following surgery, to ensure that you do not have unrealistic expectations about how the surgery will affect your body and life in general.

2. Things to Avoid

Certain activities and medications should be avoided before surgery.  For example, blood-thinning medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen should not be taken in the 2 weeks leading up to your surgery, as they could increase the risk of bleeding. Do not eat or drink any food or water after midnight the night before your surgery, and do not wear any jewelry, make-up, or fragrances the day of the procedure.

3. Be Prepared for Post-Op

Make sure you have a strong support system of individuals that can take care of you during your recovery, including pre-arranged transportation to and from the surgery center.  Fill your prescriptions in advance and have them available at the surgery center.  On the day of the surgery, wear loosely fitted clothing that zips up (does not have to be put on over your head). Understand that you can only begin taking medications that you were on preoperatively when cleared by your surgeon, and stop the use of narcotics and sedatives as quickly as possible after surgery. It is good to know how to contact your surgeon in the unexpected event that signs of possible complications arise.  Familiarize yourself with signs of complication.

Weston Center for Plastic Surgery takes wonderful care of its patients, no matter what procedure they undergo.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding breast implants, or anything else, feel free to contact 954-960-3050 to set up an appointment with Dr. Schwartz or Dr. Eberle at their office in the Fort Lauderdale/Broward County area.
