HOW IS THE GYNECOMASTIA PROCEDURE PERFORMED?

Actual Patient

Gynecomastia is a disorder resulting in overdeveloped or enlarged breast tissue in the male. For most, the condition starts at puberty. For some, it occurs during pre-adolescence. The condition is often caused by hormonal imbalances, and affects a wide variety of males across the nation.

Many men are candidates for gynecomastia procedures, however, and many Plantation surgeons have delivered quality, safe services for the following subgroups requiring treatment:

  • Boys experiencing puberty

  • Males experiencing reduced testosterone levels

  • Males with glandular issues

  • Men experiencing post-hormone therapy effects

“Gyno” surgery is effective in both physical and psychological realms-and it’s commonly referred to as “male breast reduction and “male breast liposuction”.

THE PROCEDURE

Gynecomastia surgery removes the excess breast tissue which can be mostly fat or glandular tissue to reduce the patients’ breast size, thereby allowing the muscular shape to show. Normally, breast tissue is divided into two sub-sections: fatty tissue and glandular tissue, therefore a combination of liposuction and surgical excision is used.

The liposuction procedure is performed with several, small, keyhole cuts. Utilizing ultrasound and a cannula, the surgeon melts the patient’s surrounding fat. It’s them removed with a low-powered, gentle vacuum. Normally little to no pain is felt by the patient who's sedated throughout the procedure. If surgical excision is required and an incision is made around the lower half of the areola, then general anesthesia is used.

For most, recovery is extremely quick. The procedure generally does not require overnight stays. Normally, patients may resume regular activities within 1-2 weeks. Heavy-labor activities, meanwhile, may be resumed within 4-6 weeks.

GROWING POPULARITY

The gynecomastia correction procedure has grown rapidly in previous years. For many males, liposuction surgery is nearly pain-free, widely effective and easily managed. The procedure is usually done as an outpatient, effective and requires little downtime—making is the most used system for males suffering gynecomastia.
