Plastic surgery is something that is often associated predominantly with women, but in recent years, an increasing number of men are choosing to go under the knife in order to achieve the same goals – to improve their appearance and look slimmer, healthier, more toned and more youthful than before. This body makeover is entirely possible thanks to a variety of cosmetic surgery procedures that are now available.
Unsurprisingly, there are some types of cosmetic surgery that are more popular than others. If you are looking to achieve a manly body makeover that restores your confidence and self-esteem, you may wish to consider the following three, highly sought-after procedures.
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
Do your eyes look and feel heavy? Do you appear to look tired, even after a full night’s sleep? Do you have bags under your eyes that are more like holdalls? If you can answer yes to any of these questions than blepharoplasty may be a good option for you.
Also known as eyelid surgery, blepharoplasty aims to improve the appearance of hooded or droopy eyelids and reduce the effects of bags under the eyes. Both of these problems can cause a patient to look older than they really are and lead to an accumulation of excess fat and skin. The surgery itself is straightforward and carried out either under general anesthetic or local anesthetic with sedation. Depending on what aspects of your eyes you would like addressed, incisions will be made into either the upper eyelid crease or on the inside of the lower lid so that any scars are hidden.
Recovery from eyelid surgery usually takes around a week, although it may take slightly longer for the final result of your procedure to be visible.
Gynecomastia Surgery (Male Breast Reduction)
Male breasts or ‘man boobs’ are often a taboo topic. Nevertheless, many more men experience excess male breast tissue than you might expect. There can be several reasons from this, from a hormone imbalance or being overweight to taking certain medications. Unfortunately, the effect that it can have on your confidence and self-esteem can be considerable.
Gynecomastia surgery is the name given to a male breast reduction procedure. The process is simple and straightforward. Performed under a general anesthetic so that you don’t experience any pain, your surgeon makes a cut around the nipple so that liposuction can be used to suck out excess fatty tissue. When happy with the result, the nipple will be repositioned if necessary and the incision closed with sutures.
You can expect to need a few weeks to recover, during which time your chest will feel tight and sore. It can take up to 6 months to see the final result, which should give you the tighter, smoother and more manly chest that you hoped to achieve.
Liposuction
Most people have heard of liposuction, although today it is often known by the name ‘fat sculpting’. Either way, the objective is the same – to remove stubborn pockets of fat in various locations across your body using suction. It particularly targets fat that you have been unable to shift through conventional diet and exercise – which typically occurs in the region of the abdomen, hips, thighs, and buttocks.
The procedure can be performed using local anesthetic with sedation or general anesthetic, depending on your requirements. A thin cannula, much like a straw, is inserted into the fatty tissue through very small incisions. The fluid is passed through it into the fat to help break it up before the cannula is attached to a vacuum which will suck it out.
Again, you will need to allow a couple of weeks to recover and it may take up to three months for the swelling to fully go down and for the final result to be visible.
