| Sclerotherapy
Varicose veins are enlarged
veins at or close to the surface of the skin.
They often appear twisted, discolored and may
be painful. It is common for varicose and varicose
veins to cause leg aches, fatigue, calf cramps,
or restless leg syndrome. Spider veins called
telangiectasias are tiny bluish or reddish looking
veins at the surface of the skin found on the
legs or face.
Through a procedure called Sclerotherapy,
both spider veins and superficial varicose veins
can be treated. Sclerotherapy is a technique in
which a very fine needle is used to inject an
FDA approved solution directly into the veins.
The treatment feels like a small mosquito bite.
The medication causes a mild, controlled reaction
which results in the vein walls shrinking and
ultimately closing. During treatment, patients
are advised to wear medical compression hose for
two days, which are available for purchase at
our office. Since the procedure is completely
non-surgical there is no recovery period. Our
patients may resume normal daily activities immediately.
Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy
for bulging varicose veins, an alternative to
vein stripping, is also available at our office.
It is a non-surgical procedure in which the use
of an ultrasound machine provides a “map”
or diagram of the deep and superficial veins for
localization and visualization of the sites of
refux (backflow) in the superficial veins. The
ultrasound machine guides the practitioner for
an accurate injection with an FDA approved solution
causing a reaction in the vein resulting in the
closing of that vein segment. Ultrasound Guided
Sclerotherapy is a procedure offered by Lori Harrington
that can help you get rid of those painful, unsightly,
bulging varicose veins without surgery.
